In today's episode Hayley's chatting with Kelsey. Kelsey and her husband are both carriers for 3C Syndrome. They only discovered this after their daughter, Blake, was born and went through several years of tests in order to get to the bottom of her rare condition.
IVF wasn't an option for them and so this meant that in order to grow their family, they would need to risk a future baby being diagnosed with the same condition and then needing to make a decision to end the pregnancy. They have gone through 3 subsequent TFMR's, all for 3C Syndrome.
We talk about the difficult choices they've had to make and how they've navigated these.
We also talk about the debate surrounding disability and abortion. Kelsey is so eloquent and passionate, we could have kept talking about this for hours.

TFMR: 3rd Trimester Loss & Pregnancy After Loss
Sunday Mar 13, 2022
Sunday Mar 13, 2022
Hello! Welcome to today's episode. It is Pregnancy After Loss Awareness month and so we are pleased to bring you Susan's story.
Susan tells us about her experiences of a third trimester TFMR and pregnancy after loss. These are two subjects we know many of you have been waiting to hear more about.
Most TFMRs happen in the second trimester, usually after the anomaly scan at approximately 20 weeks gestation. However, when what is picked up isn't clear and further tests are needed, this can take women into the third trimester. Or, there are times, as in Susan's case, a problem is detected much later in pregnancy during what is meant to be a routine scan.
At 36 weeks pregnant, Susan was told that their second daughter had a severe skeletal disorder.
Susan has since gone on to have another daughter, and she speaks about the impact of her TFMR on her subsequent pregnancy.

TFMR: Research
Friday Mar 25, 2022
Friday Mar 25, 2022
Today, we're chatting with both Jane Fisher from Antenatal Results and Choices and Professor Caroline Lafarge from the University of West London. Caroline is a Professor of Psychology with an interest in maternal health.
After going through her own termination, Caroline decided to focus her masters and Phd in psychology in this area of research. She has undertaken many research projects to look into how women cope with a termination for fetal abnormality and the way coping relates to women’s post-termination psychological changes. ARC has funded some of Caroline's findings, most notably in the importance of choice of method of termination (medical or surgical).
We talk about what research sets out to do, how it can help bring about change and what both Jane and Caroline have learnt from the research carried out so far.
You can find a link to a list of Caroline's publications here.

TFMR: Maternal Health Reasons - Hyperemesis Gravidarum
Sunday Mar 27, 2022
Sunday Mar 27, 2022
In today's episode we hear from Ja'Nai Wilkes describe her journey with hyperemesis gravidarum.
Often described as severe sickness, HG can be a debilitating illness. Ja'Nai has been effected by HG in all of her pregnancies. She managed to make it through her first two pregnancies and give birth to two healthy babies, but when she got pregnant for a 3rd time, she knew things were going to be much, much worse.
Ja'Nai went on the end three of her pregnancies due to HG. Her babies Dahlia, DeWayne and Rose are forever loved and missed.
TFMR for maternal health reasons is often less spoken about and so we are grateful to Ja'Nai for sharing with us so openly.
She has gone on to create support groups for other HG sufferers and you can find the various support mentioned in the episode here:

TFMR: Faith/Religion
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
Hello and welcome to our final episode of Season Four! That went fast!
Don't worry though, we'll be back soon with Season Five before you know it and we have some great episodes planned for you.
Today's episode is about how TFMR impacts someone's religious faith.
Chelsey was raised with Catholicism taking a central focus in her life and most of her family are active members of the church. After her TFMR, everything change. This has left Chelsey with a secondary loss, the loss of her faith. Still a very spiritual person however, she's learning how to direct this part of herself in a different way.
It's a confusing place for Chelsey to hold and she openly discusses the ambiguity she is trying to work through for herself, while grieving and remembering her son, Percy.

Time To Talk TFMR Live!
Sunday May 22, 2022
Sunday May 22, 2022
Well this is exciting! Welcome to our first ever podcast recording with a live audience! This even was brought to you in conjunction with Antenatal Results and Choices.
And what a fantastic event it was! We loved meeting some of our listeners in real life and getting to know some of them a little better.
Our panel of experts, Dr Brenda Kelly Consultant Obstetrician, Jane Fisher Director of ARC and Sally Kelly Specialist Bereavement Midwife, answered all our audiences TFMR questions.
These ranged from the place for more scans in later pregnancy to maternal mental health impacts.
We hope you enjoy this engaging conversation!

TFMR: Fathers
Sunday Jun 05, 2022
Sunday Jun 05, 2022
Hello, and welcome to today's episode!
I'm speaking with Rasmus about his experience of TFMR as a dad. Father's are often neglected in the TFMR conversations, and the wider baby loss topics, so I am so grateful to Rasmus for coming to chat with me.
Rasmus speaks with so much eloquence and emotion about his son, Forest. He is honest and raw, and I am sure many of you, like me, will appreciate his vulnerability.
Hopefully, our dad listeners out there will hear something that resonates with their grief in Rasmus's words.

TFMR: Creative Expression/Connection
Sunday Jun 26, 2022
Sunday Jun 26, 2022
Hello! And welcome to today's episode.
I'm speaking with Buff about her TFMR last year. We open the episode with Buff reading one of her poems that she wrote after Forest died. Creative writing, journal writing, spoken word and poetry are all ways that Buff has used to support herself through this.
Our last episode, we spoke to Rasmus, Buff's husband. Here, we hear Buff's perspective.
We can hear how they processed their grief differently. Their differences of how they made meaning of what was happening.
They are based in Portugal. Buff is British, Rasmus is Danish and so we also talk a little about the isolation and cultural differences too.
Buff mentions her doula, who helped her with figuring out what she needed/wanted in her last few days with Forest and for his birth. The organisation is called Towards Tomorrow Together. They are UK based, but supported Buff from afar.

Welcome!
Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR) has for far too long been left in the shadows of the baby loss conversations. This podcast (the first and only one to talk solely about TFMR) has been created to shine a light and help break the silence surrounding this subject. We bring you a new guest every week who either has lived experience of TFMR or who works with those who've experienced it.
Our aim is to inform, educate and of course, help you feel less alone and isolated - You Are Not Alone.
